Oil spill exercise in Split
On the last day of the conference „Adriatic 2017 – Protection of the Adriatic Sea from Pollution from Ships” an exercise to demonstrate pollution combating from ships was held. The exercise was held on October 05, 2017 in the bay od Kaštela.
A demonstration exercise was held with the aim of improving the level of training of all the members involved in the preparedness and response system, the functionality of the technical and material resources and the level of command competence.
The exercise was commanded by Assistant Minister of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, captain Siniša Orlić, while the operational part was led by harbour master of the Port of Split, captain Davor Vidan.
The ECO boat of Ciklon d.o.o from Zadar, firefighter’s boat from Šibenik and boat from the Volunteer Fire Department Kaštel Gomilica all participated in the exercise. In addition to national resources, there was also Marisa N, EMSA’s ship (European Maritime Safety Agency) that was refitted for the intervention on sea located in the port of Trieste.
This exercise has shown the importance of cooperation between national entities involved in the system of intervention at sea, but also international cooperation and the use of EU resources in the event of major incidents at sea.
