On October 4, 2017, within the conference “Adriatic 2017 – Protection of the Adriatic Sea from Ship Pollution” ATRAC organized a table top exercise for members of National headquarters for Implementation of National Contingency Plan and members of the County Operational Centre of Zadar, Šibenik-Knin and Split-Dalmatia counties. The purpose of this exercise was to verify the organization and co-operation between commanding, coordinating and operational teams at the national and county level.

Conclusions from table top exercises have indicated the need for better communication and timely decision-making, with the aim of better and faster interventions in the event of a major incident. The exercise has also shown some ambiguity in the existing Contingency Plan and the conclusions of the exercise were in line with the conclusions of the previous day in the discussion on the revision of the Plan.

Participants of the exercise agreed that command teams needed an advisory group and recognized ATRAC as an institution that could provide educational and counselling services to all participants involved in the system of responding to the accidental pollution of the sea.
