On the day of October 7^th 2022, ATRAC was invited to participate in an exercise ”EKO SEA 2022” that was organised by the County Operational Center (COC) of Primorje-Gorski kotar county. The exercise was held in the Bay of Bakar, and the sanation of polluted coastline was demonstrated in Bakarac. The participants of this exercise were members of Primorje-Gorski kotar COC, Civil protection and the members of company Dezinsekcija d.o.o.

This exercise simulated the release of 10 cubic meters of heavy fuel oil into the sea. On sea, the pollution was contained within booms that were being pulled by ships in a ”U” formation. The contained oil was collected by oil spill response vessels that had a bow that opens up to reveal built-in skimmers. The oil that ended up on the shoreline was contained within booms and some of it was collected with absorbents, while skimmers were pumping the oil into storage tanks placed on shore. The pollution on a rocky shoreline was removed with high pressure water pumps.

The exercise was successfully held and it was confirmed that the COC of Primorje-Gorski kotar county is ready for responding  to cases of accidental marine pollution.
