Exercise held within the NAMIRS project
On the 20th of November 2023, an exercise within the NAMIRS project was held in Trieste, Italy. The goal of this exercise was to check the preparedness of response services, standard operative procedures and the cooperation between the countries of Italy, Slovenia and Croatia.
The reaction and response time was also evaluated, as well as the communication between the countries involved. Through this exercise, a collision between a oil carrying vessel and a Ro-Ro vessel was simulate in which 10 tons of heavy fuel oil leaked into the sea. The surveillance of the situation was done from the sea, as well as from the air with the use of a helicopter. The exercise was successfully done, and the participants included: Central European Initiative, Italian Coast Guard, Ministry of Environment and Energetic Safety (Italy), Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure (Croatia), Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief (Slovenia), ATRAC, University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Maritime Studies and Transport Portorož (Slovenia), National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics (Italy) and other participants that are involved in the accidental marine pollution response. After the exercise concluded, an evaluation was held for all of the included parties.
