PEPSEA project Kick – off Meeting

Kick-off meeting for the project PEPSEA (Protecting the Enclosed Parts of the Sea in Adriatic from Pollution) took place in Zadar from 20 – 22 May 2019. Total budget of the project is 2,9 mil. EURO, and the project is financed through Interreg V-A Italy – Croatia programme. ATRAC is one of the project partners.

Lead partner of the project is ZADRA NOVA Agency from Zadar, Croatia. Other Croatian partners, alongside ATRAC, are Šibenik – Knin County and Split – Dalmatia County, while the Italian partners are Ferrara Research Consortium, Delta Po Regional Park Veneto, Chabmer of Commerce Bari and Environmental Protection Agency from Venice.

Main objective of the project is to protect the Adriatic sea from pollution coming from ships, offshore platforms and inland sources, to increase the quality of life for coastal population and to preserve biodiversity of the Adriatic region. Croatian and Italian partners will work together on increasing the safety of the Adriatic sea, protecting it from natural and man-made disasters, which will produce benefits for the fishery and tourism sector. This model of protection and response to pollution is believed to be transferable to other parts of the Adriatic and perhaps beyond.

Following the meeting, a press conference was organized on Wednesday, May 22, where the project has been presented to the media and public.
