ATRAC in mission in Syria

Dec 10, 2021

In the second half of August this year, there was marine pollution in Syria. The source of the pollution was a tank at the largest Syrian refinery in the city of Baniyas. Although the type of oil is known, and it is heavy fuel oil, the quantity of spilled oil remains unknown.

The Syrian government soon asked for help from REMPEC, who mobilized ATRAC in December, and the director, Vedran Martinić, traveled to Syria on December 7, 2021. The task is to determine the extent of pollution, provide advisory services, and assist the Syrian government in choosing further steps of intervention to bring the coast back to its original state as soon as possible.
